Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection the church has observed for over 1,700 years to encourage believers to examine their walk with the Lord and refocus their lives as they look to passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Our Ash Wednesday service will include responsive readings, prayers, a time of silence and, for those who wish, the application of ashes on the forehead, reminding us of our mortality and our dependence on the promise of eternal life in Christ.

Local Mission Opportunities

Click here & scroll to the bottom of the page for a list of local community and Manly Memorial sponsored opportunities for service to our church members and neighbors.

The list is not meant to be complete, it’s just a list of activities some of our church members are involved in. Additions and corrections are welcomed.

If you see a place you might like to get involved, call the contact person on the list and they’ll be glad to answer your questions.

Hospice in Need of Volunteers

Volunteers are crucial to the Hospice Care Mission and are invaluable helping hands to Rockbridge Area Hospice.
Without volunteers, Rockbridge Area Hospice could not provide the excellence of care our community has come to count on.

Click here to learn more about the many ways you can help or call 540-463-1848.

 Stained Glass Window Project

You may recall the church installed protective glass in front of the sanctuary stained glass windows earlier this year at a cost of $16,000. The protective glass is intended to prevent damage from outside debris and reduce inside condensation that will help maintain the stained glass windows in excellent condition for the indefinite future.

The church has an outstanding debt of $13,000 remaining on this project.

Any assistance you may be able to provide in reducing this debt would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking Additional items for Backpack Program

The backpack ministry is moving along wonderfully. We have added 12 more students so we are now up to a total of 107.

We have had lots of volunteers to pack and deliver the backpacks to Central.

Several people have expressed and interest in providing additional items to place in the backpacks as one person did with instant oatmeal and poptarts. These were purchased at a reasonable cost.

If you are interested, items must be individually wrapped for 107 backpacks.

If you have questions please see Phyllis Shreve or Patsy Paxton.

We are also providing a birthday cake each month for the teachers at Central, just to let them know we appreciate them for taking care of our children.

February FOOD PANTRY Donations

Food-of-the-month:   jelly and canned tuna

Please place your donations in the box outside the choir room.

Remember, all non-perishable items are accepted.

Thank you for your generous support.
